MULTIMEDIA JOURNALIST
about me

about me

Celine Castronuovo is a multimedia journalist with a focus on public health policy and politics. Her professional career began as a breaking news reporter for The Hill in 2020. Celine graduated from the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs in 2020, receiving a Bachelor's Degree with Special Honors in Journalism and Mass Communication and a minor in International Affairs through the Elliott School. Throughout her time working for publications and nonprofit organizations, she has focused on using creative storytelling to highlight the work of individuals and organizations in order to empower people to initiate meaningful change in their communities.

Celine currently works as an associate reporter for Bloomberg Law, where she covers the Food and Drug Administration and federal drug pricing rules. She reports breaking news and enterprise stories on new FDA product regulations, as well as legislation and policy aimed at lowering drug costs. A focus in her reporting is incorporating the voices of patients and health care professionals to capture how they are directly impacted by issues in the national conversation, including access to Covid-19 vaccines and treatments. Recent stories include an exclusive interview with FDA Commissioner Robert Califf on the agency's review of past regulatory decisions on opioids, and how healthcare uncertainty following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade led to obstacles for arthritis patients who rely on a medication that's also used to end ectopic pregnancies.

Celine previously worked as a breaking news reporter at The Hill, where she provided relevant and comprehensive news coverage on politics, healthcare, law, and other topics on the state, national, and international levels. She reported on pivotal news events, including the 2020 presidential election, the coronavirus pandemic, the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and much more. She also published several enterprise stories, including on the little-known third-party candidates in the 2020 election, the surge in threats of violence against state and local election officials, and the role of Cuban-American voters in shaping President Biden's foreign policy goals.

While pursuing her bachelor's degree, Celine worked at the Voice of America News Center in D.C., where she started off as a social media intern and was eventually promoted to a part-time social media producer position. In these roles, Celine created videos, graphics, photo galleries, and other multimedia content to increase engagement among millions of followers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Celine's skills allowed her to lead various projects, including an Instagram story profiling each of the 2020 U.S. Democratic candidates and an IGTV video on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission.

Prior to this, Celine was the national desk intern at CBS News, where she contributed to reporting by logging speeches, assisting with interviews on Capitol Hill, and traveling with crews to cover events throughout D.C. During the internship, Celine also received live, on-camera standup training, which helped improve her public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Celine also worked as a summer communications intern at the National Juvenile Justice Network (NJJN) in D.C., producing newsletters, social media content, and videos for NJJN and their coalition organizations. During the organization's annual forum, Celine started the #FacesofForum social media campaign, highlighting the work of young youth advocates. Celine also put together research reports on how to improve NJJN's social media presence.

At the GW School of Media and Public Affairs, Celine expanded her skills as a multimedia journalist. She wrote stories on social justice issues in D.C., including an investigative piece on the unsolved transgender homicides in the District and the disproportionate use of force on African-American subjects by the Metropolitan Police Department.

During the Fall 2018 semester, Celine studied abroad in Strasbourg, France, home to the European Court of Human Rights, to learn more about international standards on human rights and how to promote these ideals through interstate interactions.

In the Spring of 2020, Celine received first place for SMPA's Essary Writing Prize, which is awarded each year to a student who has given a promise of "sound citizenship" and ability in "forthright reporting." That same year, Celine was one of three recipients of the Dorothy and Will Roberts Prize, which honors graduating seniors who have demonstrated "academic achievement, professional promise and community service."

Celine currently resides in Washington, D.C.
